Duduk

Kopanitsa is a folk dance from Bulgaria, which has a particular rhythmic pattern of 11/8: 2-2-3-2-2, and it turns out Bulgarians do not break in pieces when dancing it (like I for one most definitely would).

Duduk is an ancient double reed woodwind instrument made of apricot wood. It is indigenous to Armenia (although there are variations of it in neighboring regions), and it is proclaimed by UNESCO as a Masterpiece of the Intangible Heritage of Humanity. Quite rightly, too. It is also the word my surname is based upon, so I felt I had to learn how to play it it.

Kaval Sviri/Xena: The Warrior Princess Theme

This song is the mash-up of Bulgarian folk song Kaval Sviri and an opening theme for "Xena: Warrior Princess" TV Series by Joseph LoDuca.
